June Hodgepodge

This roll of Kodak Gold 200 is a mix of things I shot during the later half of June. I started the roll on my 50mm when I knew I’d have room walking around, and switched to my 21mm lens when I knew I’d have less space.

As a hodgepodge roll, I didn’t have a set theme ahead of time other than “these photos will be taken in the places that I am” so I’m posting them organized thematically instead of chronologically.

Pride Weekend

Don’t let photos fool you! San Francisco is a cozy foggy wonderland especially, in the summer. But the weather gods have worked out a deal with the gays so that somehow, we get a healthy dose of sunshine for our LGBTQ+ Pride weekend, and you can trust that we took advantage of the opportunity.

There’s a lot to do in during Pride weekend, but my favorite part has become finding a spot in Dolores Park to plop down with friends for a few hours. As long as you can find room for a blanket (or this year, score a spot under a friend-of-a-friend’s tent), and bring a few things to sip on or snack on, it consistently makes for a great afternoon.

Fog

In my opinion, this group of photos is more representative of what June in SF feels like: foggy. Most of these are from Tuesday mornings, when I usually have enough time to walk downtown for work. I’ve been bringing my camera along to snap what I can, and try to mix up my routes to keep things interesting.

Arches

Two photos through arches is a little bit short of a typology, but it was enough for me to become a theme in this roll.

Technically, this entire roll was not from June! This photo is from dinner last week (July) at Shuggie’s, a true gem and a unique restaurant in the city. I had to stop by because it is closing in the next few days. I’m excited to see what the owners get up to in their next project.

I was waiting for the bus in Chinatown, and looked up at this sign, I felt nostalgic for my childhood era of rapid film development. I love the crew at Photoworks, but typical turnaround for them is slower—I get excited when it’s down to two days. I wonder how different I’d feel about film now if I could turn around developing and scanning in an hour (without having to do it myself).
